Talking to the reporters yesterday, Moyes said, “I am not going to get frustrated by the criticism. We have got the ability to be able to come back and we will surely do that.”

“This is a great side. They were the Premier League winners last season. There is no lack of potential.”

When asked about United’s win over Liverpool in a Capital One Cup game a couple of days back, Moyes said, “It was certainly a big relief for the entire camp. We had been defeated by them at the start of this month and then, we lost against City too. So, we certainly needed something going our way. I think both the teams played exciting football.”

When asked if resting the seniors in that game against Liverpool was a risk, Moyes said, “I don’t think so. Our squad doesn’t have reserves in it. All the guys are international players. So, there was no risk involved in resting some of the regulars.”

“Nobody is certain to be picked in the starting XI at the moment. It all depends on form. You will have to perform well, otherwise, you are out.”

United’s next Premier League game is against West Bromwich Albion. That match will be played on Saturday at Old Trafford.

The fact that the No 2 and No 3 were not afraid to express an opinion would make the senior coach even better. Glenn Hoddle’s training sessions were brilliant, really enjoyable,” said the 36-year-old, who is weighing up offers from Manchester United and Everton.

Everton manager David Moyes has said that the current lofty position of the club cannot be maintaining next season if the club do not bring in at least five new players in the summer. Everton are currently sixth in the Premier league table with an outside chance of finishing in the top four, which would guarantee them Champions League football next season.

He got player of the season last year and had a really strong second half of the season – especially with the cup run which meant he rightly got that award. It’s just the way football goes. I’m sure Johnny is frustrated that he is not getting the amount of games he would have liked,” said Jagielka.

It is expected that both players will be offered one year extension to their current contracts. Even though we have been excellent to the club over the years, Moyes has urged them to not feel bad about being offered only a one-year extension because it is a decision made with their age in mind. He has said that he is yet to discuss the contract position of both the players with the chairman, but will be doing so after the end of the year. It is likely that both players will be offered new deals in February or March.

“We are monitoring Phil’s position but, if you were asking me, I’d say: ‘Let’s give him another year’s contract and keep it going’. I’d say the same for Sylvain Distin, who is in the same position. With all due respect, when you get to their age, they understand most things are on one-year deals or rolling contracts. Both of them have been excellent and I’d have no qualms recommending to the board that we give them another year’s contract,” said David Moyes. Everton will be facing a trip to Reading during the weekend.
