Manchester United coach Phil Neville has said that he is very much impressed with the training methods of new manager David Moyes at the club. This is the first time Manchester United will be experiencing a new manager at the helm of a Premier league season.

Sir Alex Ferguson retired from duty after 26 years in charge of the club. Moyes has brought in Phil Neville from Everton after the midfielder retired at the end of last season. He has made no secret of the fact that he would one day like to become a manager.

United is not new to Phil Neville as he played at the club along with his brother Gary Neville for several years before moving to Everton in 2005. Now back at Old Trafford, Neville is looking to win the league title as a coach. Moyes has received praise from Neville, but he has warned that the Scot should adopt attacking football as soon as possible because United fans demand it. They have gone over the years to love the attacking football of Manchester United, which is also synonymous around the world. Moyes has so far been a pragmatic manager with Everton.

“I think he has really impressed the lads with his training methods. We have worked them hard and we think we have got them really fit for the start of the season. But he has remained true to himself. He has been the same person that I have known for the past eight years. He has treated the players the same as he treated the Everton players – I think that is really important. He has not come in and tried to be someone he is not,” said Neville. United started the season with a 4-1 win over Swansea on the opening weekend.

Aside from Terry Venables and Steve McLaren, he has also spoken in glowing praise of our performance England managers like Glenn Hoddle. An extremely versatile player, Neville was capable of playing either in midfield or in defence.

“Terry Venables was brilliant. In terms of the whole management thing, he was the most rounded. He had man-management. He had a fiery side. The players respected him. Tactically he was brilliant. I liked the ways he had coaches around him who challenged him, Don Howe and Bryan Robson. The fact that the No 2 and No 3 were not afraid to express an opinion would make the senior coach even better. Glenn Hoddle’s training sessions were brilliant, really enjoyable,” said the 36-year-old, who is weighing up offers from Manchester United and Everton.

Everton manager David Moyes has said that the current lofty position of the club cannot be maintaining next season if the club do not bring in at least five new players in the summer. Everton are currently sixth in the Premier league table with an outside chance of finishing in the top four, which would guarantee them Champions League football next season.

However, Moyes has pointed to the fact that there are several players coming to the end of their careers at Everton, and the team needs injection of fresh blood in order to maintain the pressure against the likes of Tottenham and Liverpool.

The future of Moyes has been under great speculation over the last few months, as he has refused to sign a new contract before the end of the season. “I do think there is a big rebuilding job to go on. We have a little bit of an ageing team. With Phil going, that is a big piece of the jigsaw which will leave and, if we make Europe, we are going to have to find a way of bringing in five or six players because of the way your squad is affected. We have a few players in their 30s and we have to start looking to replace them but supporters also want us to continue playing at the top of the league,” said Moyes.

The Dutch defender is usually played at the centre back or defensive midfield position, and it certainly was a new experience to him. The afternoon did not go well for the 29-year-old after he had a torrid time.

Many Everton fans have said that this is the worst display by the player since arriving at the club from Atletico Madrid back in 2009. Heitinga has not been a first-team regular for Everton this season. Jagielka has recalled the fact that Heitinga was named as the player of the year for Everton last season.

“He’s bound to be down. We have all had one of those games when nothing seems to go right. In the end I think he’ll be thankful, like the rest of us, that we at least got a point. It’s difficult. He got player of the season last year and had a really strong second half of the season – especially with the cup run which meant he rightly got that award. It’s just the way football goes. I’m sure Johnny is frustrated that he is not getting the amount of games he would have liked,” said Jagielka.

“I think we are doing really well. I think next week, when we play Wigan, is the turn of the year, is the halfway point, and if we can be in fifth or fourth position, that’s where we wanted to be at the start of the season. That’s the goal that the manager set us, be in the top four or be in and around the top four by the time we get to Christmas,” said Neville. Despite this lofty position, Everton have had just two victories in the last five matches.

The Everton manager David Moyes has revealed that he is looking to offer the veteran players Phil Neville and Sylvain Distin new contracts. Both the players have been at Everton for a considerable amount of time and their contracts comes to an end at the end of this season.

David Moyes has said that he is keen to retain the services of both players. The former Manchester United midfielder Phil Neville has been one of the outstanding players for Everton over the years. At 36 and 35 years of age of respectively, they may not have lot in terms of the football abilities, but they give Everton a lot of experience.

It is expected that both players will be offered one year extension to their current contracts. Even though we have been excellent to the club over the years, Moyes has urged them to not feel bad about being offered only a one-year extension because it is a decision made with their age in mind. He has said that he is yet to discuss the contract position of both the players with the chairman, but will be doing so after the end of the year. It is likely that both players will be offered new deals in February or March.

“We are monitoring Phil’s position but, if you were asking me, I’d say: ‘Let’s give him another year’s contract and keep it going’. I’d say the same for Sylvain Distin, who is in the same position. With all due respect, when you get to their age, they understand most things are on one-year deals or rolling contracts. Both of them have been excellent and I’d have no qualms recommending to the board that we give them another year’s contract,” said David Moyes. Everton will be facing a trip to Reading during the weekend.

Phil Neville has said that if he is offered a new deal by Everton, he would be more than happy to continue playing for the club. Neville’s contract with Everton is going to expire at the end of the current season.

Neville said that he is not thinking too much about the new contract. If his contract gets extended, it would be great, but, if the club decides to release him, he might look for opportunities outside England.

Neville has become 35 years of age now and according to some reports, Everton is not interested in extending Neville’s contract. As per Neville, he still has 2 or 3 years of football left in him and he would not think about retirement even if he would be released by Everton at the end of this season. He would not mind playing in some other country.

Neville has been playing for Everton since a long time. He had joined the club in August 2005. Everton had bought Neville from Manchester United after paying a transfer fee which was reported to be somewhere around 3.5 million pounds. He played his first match for Everton against the Spanish club Villarreal CF in a Champions League qualifier. He proved to be a very good buy for Everton. He gave some amazing performances for the club over the years. He was appointed as the club’s captain in 2007 and he has been leading the side since then.

Neville had spent some time with the England U21 side earlier this year and helped the young players. On being asked about that, Neville said that there are some highly talented guys in the England U21 team. They were full of energy in the camp and it was wonderful to spend some time with the youngsters. As per Neville, he would love to be a coach once his playing career gets over.

Phil Neville has accepted that he is indeed looking at going on to coaching once his playing career is over, but reckons that he has the quality and ability to continue playing for a few more years. Phil Neville has been one of the consistent players at Everton, and has been a huge boost for the manager David Moyes, who has been struggling with the lack of finances for a number of years now. The 35-year-old was a £ 3.5 million signing from Manchester United back in 2005. He is fast approaching 20 years of professional football since he made his debut for the Manchester club 19 years ago.

“I worked quite hard over the summer. I went on holiday but I trained at a facility for a couple for weeks. That is par for the course now. Particularly when you are getting older, you have to stay ahead of the game. At the clinics I went to over the summer to do my training I learned that age is just a number. I want to play football for as long as I possibly can: two, three more years hopefully at the top level,” said Phil Neville on the official website of the club.

“The way he has managed us in the last month or two suggests to me that he is in it for the long-term. He has been fantastic and rotated the team, something this club hasn’t been able to do before. The lads have really embraced that. He is ambitious and he wants to get to the top. He wants to do that with Everton. We’ve just got to make sure we stop slipping up at this stage of games,” said Phil Neville quashing rumours linking with David Moyes quitting.

“[It is] a massive disappointment sometimes. You get a little bit frustrated because we know we are a club on the verge of doing something special. Taking that next step. Over the six or seven years I’ve been here, we’ve been so close – and yet so far at times,” Phil Neville said when asked about Everton’s inability to challenge for the Champions League positions in recent times. Everton are currently in the 12th position, which is very far from the European qualification places they used to challenge only a few seasons ago.
